This case study outlines the implementation of a web-based solution developed by 1Spatial for Jemena, an energy utility in Australia, aimed at automating the transformation of as-built AutoCAD drawings for underground infrastructure. The objective was to increase the productivity of the GIS Electricity Team members in response to growing demand for electricity and the need for timely updates to their GIS system. The solution involved using FME, a data integration tool, to streamline the process of uploading CAD drawings, which previously required specialized drafting skills. The case study details the challenges Jemena faced with varying contractor submissions and the backlog of work that had developed. The successful proof of concept demonstrated significant time savings, enabling team members to process drawings much faster than manual methods. The final implementation allows non-specialist team members to validate and upload drawings efficiently, effectively doubling their productivity and ensuring compliance with internal KPIs.
