Penn State University Power BI Implementation Case Study

This case study details the implementation of a Power BI solution at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) to address challenges faced by the Office of the Corporate Controller (OCC) and Auxiliary & Business Services (A&BS). The university recognized the need for a modern business intelligence tool to improve data management and analytics capabilities. The solution included a time-sensitive reconciliation process and a secure purchasing card inventory system, enabling better tracking of 10,000 active purchase cards. Additionally, a Power BI data model was developed to focus on student housing contracts, allowing for comparative analysis of housing applications over time. Training workshops were conducted to equip staff with the necessary skills to utilize Power BI effectively. The results showed a significant reduction in manual tracking efforts and improved insights into student housing trends and financial operations, ultimately enhancing decision-making processes across the university.
