This report presents a study on the effectiveness of the 95 Phonics Core Program (95 PCP) in improving literacy achievement among third graders during the 2022-2023 academic year. The focus is on students who began the year at varying ability levels, particularly English Language Learners (ELL) and special education (SPED) students. Data was collected from four elementary schools within the Southside Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, utilizing iReady assessments at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. The study aims to answer specific research questions regarding changes in overall reading and phonics scores over time for different beginning-of-year (BOY) categories. Results indicate that 95 PCP significantly enhances phonics skills, leading to improved overall reading scores. Notably, 43% of students started with kindergarten-level phonics skills, and by the end of the year, 63% advanced at least one grade level in phonics. The findings underscore the program's effectiveness in addressing literacy gaps among students below grade level.
