Managing Fleet Expansion with Engineering Information

This document is a case study detailing the implementation of an engineering information management solution by Royal Boskalis Westminster NV to support its fleet expansion program. The case study outlines the challenges faced by Boskalis, including the need for effective project management and document control systems due to significant staff changes and the potential loss of valuable knowledge. The solution selected was the Meridian system, which met user requirements for health, safety, and environment, project management, and document transmittal. The case study describes how Boskalis successfully migrated over 495,000 documents into Meridian, enabling centralized management of engineering information. The results include improved access to as-built documents, streamlined project management for new ship builds, and enhanced management of change processes for existing vessels. The implementation has led to reduced document exchange costs and ensured compliance with quality assurance and HSE procedures.
