Debeka Insurance Group IT System Implementation Case Study

This case study details the implementation of a flexible IT system at Debeka Insurance Group, aimed at supporting new unit-linked life insurance products. Founded in 1905, Debeka has evolved from a health insurance provider to a comprehensive insurance group. The project commenced in October 2015 and concluded in June 2016, lasting nine months. The challenge arose from a changing market environment characterized by low-interest rates and regulatory pressures, necessitating a shift from traditional life insurance models. Debeka utilized the in|sure PSLife kernel, which had been in use since 2011, to enhance flexibility and adaptability. The project involved integrating existing systems with the new kernel, allowing for the parallel operation of both systems. The outcome was successful, with the first new contract processed on June 23, 2016, and over 100,000 new policy contracts issued by the end of 2017. The collaboration between Debeka employees and external partners was crucial to the project's success.
