This case study presents THEMIS, an AI-powered legal knowledge graph platform designed for international law firms. The platform addresses the inefficiencies in manual legal document analysis, which typically requires 5 to 8 hours per case and lacks structured querying capabilities. THEMIS converts unstructured lawsuit documents into structured, queryable intelligence while ensuring full provenance back to the original documents. The development process involved close collaboration with legal experts to formalize competency questions and create a domain-specific legal ontology. The platform demonstrated significant efficiency gains, reducing document analysis time by 85-94% and costs from €905-€2,208 to approximately €90-€140 per document. The case study outlines the challenges faced by law firms, including the need for verifiable AI insights and the complexity of legal document structures. By establishing a trust chain linking every answer to the source text, THEMIS meets the rigorous demands of professional legal practice, ultimately leading to estimated annual savings of €75,000–€205,000 per firm.
