Custom AC-DC Power Supply for Ultrasound Devices

This case study details the development of a custom AC-DC power supply designed for a leading medical device company's ultrasound system. The project aimed to integrate battery charging and management functionalities while addressing specific operational challenges. The custom power supply was required to handle battery management flexibly, accommodating one or multiple batteries or operating without a battery. It needed to endure up to 3000 power on-off cycles annually, ensuring reliability and longevity. Advanced Energy's solution included a power supply with over 850 W output and more than 10 output voltages, ranging from 3.3 VDC to 30 VDC, while adhering to strict size constraints of below 300 x 300 x 110 mm. The solution's high power density and cost competitiveness contributed to a design win for the customer, enhancing their market presence and establishing a new standard in the medical device sector.
