This case study focuses on the implementation of the Impac ISR 6 pyrometer for continuous measurement of molten glass temperature in a glass manufacturing environment. The customer faced challenges with inconsistent pouring temperatures, which led to quality issues in the finishing process. The AE team recommended the installation of the ISR 6 pyrometer at each pouring stream, utilizing a ratio mode that employs two adjacent wavelengths for accurate temperature determination, minimizing the impact of emissivity and environmental contaminants. The solution included the critical use of an air purge to maintain measurement accuracy by preventing debris build-up. The successful trial led to the customer's decision to equip their entire factory with multiple pyrometers for comprehensive monitoring of all pouring streams. Additionally, AE’s SCR power controllers are being evaluated for future enhancements in controlling molten glass flow, indicating ongoing collaboration for process improvement.
