This case study details the collaboration between a major medical device company and Advanced Energy in the development of a next generation RF generator for surgical applications. The objective was to create a fanless, medically certified 1000 W AC-DC power supply, specifically designed to power a stepper motor, main processing board, and two RF amplifiers. The CS1000 Series, part of Advanced Energy's Excelsys product line, was selected for its high power density and reliability. The study outlines how the CS1000's convection-cooled design eliminates acoustic noise, making it suitable for sensitive medical environments. Additionally, the power supply's features, including PMBus™ and digital control, enhance its functionality. The customer benefited from Advanced Energy's technical support and rapid sample delivery, which expedited their development cycle and simplified compliance with safety standards. The case study emphasizes the importance of efficient power supplies in improving surgical outcomes and meeting the demands of modern electrosurgery.
