This case study details the implementation of Thyro PX SCR Power Controllers to address the power efficiency needs in kilns used for lithium-ion battery recycling. The customer faced challenges with their existing kilns, which could not meet the 1.5 MW power requirement for a new kiln featuring advanced nickel-iron-based heating elements. Advanced Energy proposed the Thyro PX solution, which offers a range of features including comprehensive operating modes to minimize harmonic distortion, high-efficiency design, and multi-zone capability for independent control of multiple loads. The implementation of dASM cards improved load management by desynchronizing heating zones, reducing energy costs, and preventing line issues. The engineering team conducted a thorough review of the control method and system integration, leading to enhanced safety and efficiency in the kiln operations. The successful upgrade not only met the increased capacity demands but also addressed safety concerns, showcasing Advanced Energy's commitment to innovative solutions.
