Impact of My Reading Academy on Pre-K Learning Gains

This research brief presents a study on the implementation of My Reading Academy by the Early Learning Coalition of Palm Beach County during the 2023-2024 school year. The study evaluates the program's effectiveness in improving kindergarten readiness among pre-K students across various educational settings. It builds on previous findings from spring 2023, which indicated significant learning gains for students using the program. The current study involved 5,491 students who utilized My Reading Academy and 3,031 students who did not. Key findings reveal that students using the program scored an average of 45 points higher on the Star Early Literacy™ Assessment, equating to nearly four months of additional learning. Furthermore, 80% of these students ended the year kindergarten-ready compared to 63% of their peers. Educators reported positive impacts on students' reading skills and confidence, with a majority expressing interest in continuing the program. The study meets ESSA Tier II Standards, affirming its validity and relevance.
