This report is a research brief detailing the implementation of My Reading Academy in the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District during the 2022–2023 academic year. It focuses on kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students across 17 elementary schools. The report outlines the program's expansion from pre-kindergarten to additional grades following significant reading skill gains observed during the pandemic-affected school year. It documents the association between My Reading Academy usage and improvements in reading assessments, specifically the CIRCLE Progress Monitoring Assessment System and iStation. The study compares performance among treatment and comparison groups, utilizing propensity score weights for comparability. Key findings indicate that students who engaged substantially with the program achieved statistically significant higher scores on the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), with substantial progress translating to approximately 3.4 to 4.6 months of additional learning. Educators expressed a strong desire to continue using the program, noting its positive impact on student confidence and engagement in reading.
