This final report presents an economic analysis of the impact of an accommodation shortfall during major events in Montréal in 2026. The study was commissioned by Airbnb and conducted by Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton (RCGT) to provide an independent assessment of the situation in Québec. The report outlines the objectives, which include assessing potential shortages of short-term accommodations, quantifying economic losses from restrictions on short-term rentals, and measuring the impact on hotel rates during the events. The analysis focuses on the Montréal census metropolitan area and includes two major events: the Formula 1 Grand Prix and the UCI Cycling World Championships. The methodology consists of five steps, including defining the geographic market, estimating accommodation supply and demand, identifying the accommodation shortfall, and measuring the economic impact based on visitor spending. The report provides detailed projections and assessments based on historical data and trends.
