This case study details the HVAC upgrade at a fiber network facility in Laurel, Montana, focusing on the implementation of AIRSYS UNICOOL systems. The project aimed to replace end-of-life HVAC equipment and improve energy efficiency. The installation of five UNICOOL variable capacity Wall Packaged Units (WPUs) with integrated free cooling technology has resulted in significant electricity savings, projected at approximately $11,700 annually. The study outlines the challenges faced with the existing HVAC systems, which were inadequate for the facility's cooling demands. The new systems not only improved reliability but also enhanced energy efficiency, as evidenced by a reduction in Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). The report includes data on energy consumption before and after the installation, demonstrating a clear decrease in energy usage. The findings indicate that the new HVAC solutions will continue to provide substantial savings and support future growth in IT equipment load, establishing a model for similar facilities.
