Structural Performance Management for LNG Terminals

This technical report details the application of Structural Performance Management (SPM) at Adriatic LNG (ALNG) to safely increase the operating pressure of Open Rack Vaporizers (ORVs) from 78 to 90.1 bar. The report outlines the challenges faced in ensuring that the ORVs could operate at higher pressures without compromising safety, requiring a Fitness-For-Service assessment aligned with ASME VIII Div.2 Part 5. Akselos developed a high-fidelity structural twin of ORV #3, which allowed for a comprehensive evaluation of the structural margins under the new operating conditions. The assessment confirmed that ORV #3 could safely operate at the increased pressure, leading to regulatory approval. The findings suggest that this methodology can be applied to other critical assets, unlocking significant structural value and enhancing operational confidence. The report emphasizes the potential for similar approaches to yield substantial benefits across the LNG sector, with estimates indicating over €200 million in unlockable structural value.
