This case study details the performance improvements achieved using the T-A Pro drill in machining welding nozzles made of copper. The objective of the study was to enhance chip control during the drilling process. The T-A Pro drill, equipped with an ISO-specific 'N' geometry insert, significantly improved chip control compared to a competitor drill. The results indicated a 150% increase in tool life, allowing for 30,000 holes compared to the competitor's 12,000 holes. Additionally, the T-A Pro drill reduced cycle time from 6.67 seconds to 4.44 seconds and decreased the cost per hole by 35%. The customer reported a reduction in spindle load from 80-85% to 65% on a new point, and the chip thickness was optimized to .012 to .014 inches. These enhancements demonstrate the effectiveness of the T-A Pro drill in nonferrous materials, addressing the challenges of chip control and overall machining efficiency.
