Innovative Precast Concrete Staircase Design

This document is a technical report detailing the design and production of an innovative precast concrete outdoor staircase for a primary school in Ghent, Belgium. The staircase serves as an escape route and is part of a pilot project utilizing alkali-activated concrete (AAM), which significantly reduces the carbon footprint by using only 25% of the usual clinker compared to conventional concrete. The report outlines the collaboration between Back Architects, Studiebureau Mouton, and Enjoy Concrete, highlighting the challenges faced during the design process, particularly regarding the advanced technology and stability requirements of the staircase. The use of Allplan Precast software for detailed design and production planning is also discussed, emphasizing the seamless integration of 3D modeling and the importance of up-to-date data for efficient production.
