This report presents findings from a study on document imaging processes within financial institutions, specifically focusing on 103 bankers from small to mid-sized community banks in the United States. The study aims to understand the definition of document imaging as perceived by bankers, the departments utilizing imaging software, the types of scanning equipment used, and how banks organize electronic documents. Key findings indicate that 53% of bankers associate document imaging with scanned files, while 69% of institutions use imaging software for organizing loan files. The report also highlights that traditional desktop scanners and batch capture scanners are the most commonly used technologies. Furthermore, it reveals that 37% of banks have invested in dedicated document management software, although 44% still rely on shared folders for document organization. The report outlines the reasons for implementing electronic imaging systems, with over 76% of institutions seeking greater efficiency and 75% aiming to reduce paper usage.
