This case study details the implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) solution at West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) in Australia. Established under the Health Services Act 1998, WGHG provides various healthcare services to approximately 53,300 patients. In January 2021, WGHG joined the Gippsland Health Alliance EMR project, adopting the Sunrise™ suite of solutions hosted on Microsoft Azure. The transition from paper to digital records aimed to enhance healthcare delivery across a geographically diverse area. The study outlines the benefits realized, including improved clinician productivity, timely communication between care settings, and enhanced clinical outcomes. It also discusses the challenges faced during the transition and the importance of comprehensive training for staff. The case study emphasizes the role of cloud technology in facilitating scalability, cost efficiencies, and data sovereignty, ultimately leading to improved operational performance and patient care.
