This case study details the deployment of AMD EPYC CPUs by Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a leader in electronic component design and manufacturing. The objective was to enhance simulation performance for high-frequency radio filter components while optimizing energy consumption within the data center. By transitioning to Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with 3rd and 5th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs, Murata achieved significant improvements in simulation speed and energy efficiency. The 3rd Gen EPYC CPUs provided 1.5 to 2 times better performance compared to previous platforms, while the 5th Gen CPUs delivered a threefold increase in performance and a 66% reduction in energy consumption. The study outlines how Murata utilized advanced simulation tools, including ANSYS HFSS and Femtet, to enhance its design processes. The results indicate that the new server environment allowed for more cores in a compact space, leading to reduced operational costs and improved licensing efficiency for simulation software. Overall, the deployment of AMD EPYC CPUs has supported Murata's growth and innovation in the telecommunications sector.
