This research article examines how single, divorced, and widowed individuals manage their finances, focusing on their current priorities, long-term planning, and the significance of professional financial advice. Conducted by Ameriprise Financial, the study surveyed over 3,000 financially solo American adults in January 2026, exploring their confidence in achieving financial goals, perceptions of independence, and challenges faced while making financial decisions. The findings indicate that many financially solo adults feel empowered and exhibit pride in their financial accomplishments. However, concerns related to aging alone and the complexity of financial navigation are prevalent. Additionally, the research underscores the value of trusted financial advisors, who assist individuals in translating their goals into actionable plans for long-term stability. The study also delves into the unique experiences of financially solo adults categorized by their relationship status, highlighting distinct financial priorities and emotional responses to managing finances independently.
