This case study evaluates the performance and effectiveness of the Ysleta Independent School District’s dual language program in Texas, which has shown significant success in promoting bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism among students in a predominantly Hispanic/Latino community. The study utilizes Istation's Reading and Spanish Literacy formative assessments to analyze the program's impact compared to traditional educational methods. Key findings indicate that students in the program achieved higher Spanish literacy gains across all grade levels and surpassed their peers in English literacy by grades three to five. The curriculum's strategic implementation, including a phased approach to language learning and the use of qualified bilingual teachers, is highlighted as crucial to these outcomes. Despite challenges such as limited bilingual resources, the program serves as a model for other districts aiming to enhance dual language education. The research underscores the importance of early exposure to both languages and the role of educational technology in supporting student progress.
