Annual Accounting CPE Requirements Case Study

This case study examines the implementation of adaptive learning modules in a large public accounting firm to address the challenges of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) requirements for certified professionals. The firm aimed to reduce the time spent on annual training without sacrificing quality. Two adaptive learning modules, focused on Auditing Accounting Estimates and Critical Assessment of Audit Evidence, were piloted with 2,917 auditing professionals. The results indicated a significant 61% knowledge gap when compared to traditional learning methods. Additionally, the cohort using the adaptive learning approach achieved a 10% higher initial pass rate for Auditing Accounting Estimates and a 33% higher initial pass rate for Critical Assessment of Audit Evidence. The study also reported a 50% reduction in learning time for Auditing Accounting Estimates and a 42% reduction for Critical Assessment of Audit Evidence. Following these promising results, the firm plans to expand the pilot program to its entire audit practice.
