This case study details the collaboration between Ansys and Imperial College London, focusing on the development of automated applications for lens selection in remote refocusing microscopy projects. The document outlines the challenges faced by optical scientists in selecting appropriate lenses for 3D imaging and how the use of Ansys Zemax OpticStudio, along with the ZOS-API and MATLAB, has streamlined this process. The study describes the creation of two applications: Catalog Generator and Doublet Selector, which enable researchers to quickly identify suitable lens combinations from a dynamic catalog of stock lenses. By automating the selection process, the applications significantly reduce the time required to find optimal lens pairs, allowing scientists to focus more on innovation rather than manual testing.
