This document is a technical report detailing the implementation of Archibot, an AI assistant developed by the European Parliament using Anthropic's Claude in Amazon Bedrock. The primary objective of this project was to enhance access to the European Parliament's extensive historical archives, which date back to 1952. The Archives Unit faced challenges in making the archive easily searchable and accessible. By integrating Claude, Archibot provides multilingual access to a wide range of documents, including resolutions and policies. The implementation strategy focused on advanced search capabilities, multilingual support, and ensuring trustworthy technology use through Constitutional AI principles. The project achieved significant results, including an 80% reduction in document search and analysis time while maintaining high accuracy. Archibot serves diverse user groups, providing instant access to historical documents and enhancing research capabilities. The report also discusses future expansions of Archibot's capabilities and highlights key learnings regarding AI's role in promoting government transparency and accessibility.
