This case study details the collaboration between a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company and Aptyx to enhance the accuracy of a drug delivery mechanism for a contraceptive device. The device utilizes a continuous spool of material that requires a precise coating solution. Aptyx's team focused on several critical factors, including the absorption rate, feeding rate through the coating machine, and the consistency of the coating. A significant challenge was the development of a dynamic visual inspection system capable of assessing the coating application on substrates with manufacturing variations. The system employed a series of cameras to compare pre-coat and post-coat geometries, ensuring that any defects were identified and removed. The innovative process developed by the team allowed for an even application of the coating, ensuring reliable drug release in compliance with product guidelines. Furthermore, the solution enabled the material to be respooled for assembly without disrupting the manufacturing process and ensured traceability to meet FDA regulations.
