This case study documents the development of an innovative heated breathing circuit by Aptyx for a global ventilator supplier. The customer aimed to create a circuit for humidified ventilation that avoided the use of water traps, which required regular draining. The challenges included existing intellectual property protections and safety concerns regarding electrical wires within the hose. Aptyx collaborated with the customer's team to brainstorm solutions, leading to a novel design featuring a hose constructed with helixes and wires placed beneath each helix, which mitigated short circuit risks. The internal process developed by Aptyx included specialized extrusion technology and manufacturing equipment. Testing confirmed that the product functioned effectively, significantly reducing condensation and eliminating the need for a water trap, thus enhancing patient safety and improving the overall customer experience. The successful implementation allowed the customer to enter a new market and gain market share, while Aptyx continues to innovate on this circuit concept.
