This case study outlines the implementation of the Armstrong Ceilings Recycling Program at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (NOENMCC) as part of a significant renovation project. The project, valued at $570 million, aimed to enhance sustainability and achieve LEED certification goals by minimizing waste and maximizing resource circularity. Armstrong supplied ceiling panels with high recycled content and collaborated with the general contractor to ensure effective recycling processes. The study details the challenges faced, including the need to quickly regain use of renovated spaces and meet LEED guidelines for construction waste recycling. The project was executed in two phases, with the first phase successfully diverting nearly 100,000 square feet of ceiling panels from landfills. The anticipated outcome for the second phase is to process approximately 300,000 square feet, with the overall goal of achieving a 50% diversion rate. The collaboration among all parties involved contributed to a successful recycling initiative, exceeding the diversion goal with an estimated 95% rate.
