This case study details the renovation project undertaken at the communal area of Penn State Schreyer Honors College, aimed at creating a welcoming environment for scholars. The project, named 'Belonging by Design,' focused on transforming a previously dated and dimly lit 3,500 square-foot space into an inviting public area that encourages community engagement. The design team from Weber Murphy Fox Architects implemented various enhancements, including a mix of workspaces and seating arrangements, as well as intimate areas for individual study. Key features of the renovation include the installation of dimmable LED lighting, textured wood panels, and an acoustical ceiling designed to improve aesthetics and functionality. The collaboration with ProjectWorks® facilitated detailed layouts and optimized material usage, which minimized waste during construction. The resulting space not only meets the current needs of students but also fosters a sense of belonging and well-being, aligning with the university's objectives.
