This technical report outlines the transformation project undertaken at Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Teaching Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to enhance patient monitoring and alarm management. The report details the collaboration with Ascom, which aimed to reduce the number of non-actionable medical device alarms and improve critical alarm response times. The project involved the integration of a Clinical Monitoring & Alarm Management Solution that categorized alarms into actionable and non-actionable types. As a result, the PICU team experienced a 76% reduction in non-actionable alarms and a 15% improvement in response times, with actionable alarms being responded to six seconds faster on average. The report emphasizes the benefits of creating a digitally integrated environment in single-patient rooms, which facilitates better monitoring and communication among medical staff, ultimately improving patient care and workflow efficiency.
