Ventilator Integration in Patient Records

This technical report discusses the integration of ventilators into patient records within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It outlines the collaboration with Ascom to implement a vendor-neutral Medical Device Integration (MDI) solution that automates data transfer from ventilators to the Clinical Information System (CIS). By eliminating manual transcription, the MDI solution is expected to significantly reduce defect opportunities and free up nursing time for direct patient care.
