This technical report presents benchmarking research on risk-based approaches to executive protection, conducted by ASIS International in collaboration with Everbridge. The study captures the current status and practices of executive protection through two surveys involving approximately 400 security professionals and 110 security consultants. Key findings indicate a significant increase in attention to executive protection, with 42 percent of organizations reporting more emphasis than 18 months prior. Factors contributing to this trend include high-profile incidents and a rise in public threats. The report identifies challenges faced by security professionals, such as the lack of value placed on executive protection by executives and deficiencies in demonstrating the return on investment for protection programs. Additionally, it outlines the varying levels of formalization in executive protection functions across organizations, with larger organizations more likely to have dedicated resources. The report also discusses the methodologies employed to assess threats and the technologies utilized in executive protection practices.
