This technical report introduces the Submetered HVAC Implemented For Demand Response (SHIFDR) dataset, which provides detailed measurements of individual HVAC system components during normal operation and various demand response (DR) events. The dataset includes submetered fan power data at one-minute resolution, whole-building electric load data at five-minute resolution, and building automation system (BAS) data, such as room temperature and airflow measurements. This comprehensive dataset addresses the limitations of traditional building automation systems that typically do not collect power measurements at sufficient speeds for effective demand response. The report outlines a case study demonstrating that models relying solely on BAS data do not accurately estimate fan power during rapid changes, emphasizing the necessity of submetering for effective closed-loop control in HVAC systems. The findings highlight the gap between theoretical modeling and practical building control capabilities, providing valuable insights for future research in building energy management.
