Highway 779 Improvement Project Overview

This technical report details the Highway 779 improvement project in Stony Plain, Alberta, which aimed to enhance traffic flow and safety. The project involved the design and construction of a four-lane, divided roadway with a raised concrete median and dedicated left-turn lanes at intersections. Associated Engineering was retained as the prime consultant, overseeing preliminary and detailed design, tendering, construction supervision, and post-construction services. Key challenges included managing utility conflicts discovered during construction, such as shallow storm sewers and various utility lines. The project team employed innovative construction techniques to mitigate these issues, ensuring timely completion. The collaborative efforts of the project owner, lead consultant, and contractor were recognized with an Alberta Transportation Partnering Award in 2022. Additionally, the report highlights the BC operation's achievement of the Certificate of Recognition from the British Columbia Safety Alliance, emphasizing the commitment to health and safety standards in the construction industry.
