Service Optimisation of Prostate Cancer Oral SACT Pathway

This document is a report detailing the outputs of a collaborative working project between Astellas Pharma Ltd and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, focusing on the service optimisation of the Prostate Cancer Oral Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) pathway. The objective of the project is to publish findings from the service review of the Prostate Cancer Oral SACT Novel Hormone Therapy pathway to support the redesign of the cancer service. The report identifies various bottlenecks affecting clinic flow, including staffing issues, lack of consistent medical monitoring, and inefficiencies in appointment scheduling. It also outlines processes that contribute to delays in patient care, such as the management of blood tests and the limitations of the booking system. Additionally, the report highlights successful elements of the pathway, such as the use of home care aids and the effectiveness of multi-disciplinary team meetings. Recommendations for improvements are also provided, including the establishment of consistent follow-up protocols and enhancements to the booking system.
