Managing Memory Tiers with CXL in Virtualized Environments

This research article presents Intel® Flat Memory Mode, a novel hardware-managed memory tiering solution for CXL in cloud environments. It addresses the challenges of memory latency and contention in virtualized settings, proposing a combination of hardware and software strategies to optimize performance. The evaluation on a full-system prototype shows minimal performance degradation across various workloads, while introducing Memstrata for effective multi-tenant memory management.
