This case study details the thermal and shock analysis conducted by ATA Engineering for Hi-Z Technology's radioisotope power supply (RPS) designed for NASA. The RPS is intended to endure high g-level impacts, up to 15,000 g, while providing consistent electrical power and heat for system components in deep space missions where sunlight is unavailable. The study outlines the importance of continual thermal performance for the RPS to ensure reliable operation. It describes the analytical trade studies and test-model correlations performed by ATA to optimize the thermal and structural design of the RPS. Key tasks included developing thermal and structural models, performing thermal analyses, correlating models with test results, and conducting modal and buckling analyses. The findings led to recommendations for future designs, emphasizing the balance between shock resistance and output power, which was acknowledged positively by Hi-Z Technology's CEO.
