Mobility-Driven Care Models in Hospitals

This technical report discusses the implementation of mobility-driven care models in hospitals to enhance patient safety and outcomes. It outlines the challenges faced by patients due to immobility-related harm, particularly hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs), which are preventable yet prevalent. The report presents the Atlas Mobility model, which integrates dedicated personnel, real-time monitoring technology, and data analytics to address these issues. It details the roles of mobility technicians, bedside mobility monitors, and analytics in creating a closed-loop system that ensures consistent patient care. The report also highlights the operational and economic impacts of reducing HAPIs, noting that one HAPI can cost up to $207,000, and the annual costs for hospitals can reach $26.6 billion. By adopting these mobility practices, hospitals can achieve significant reductions in pressure injuries, improve patient outcomes, and enhance financial performance.
