This case study outlines the implementation of the Matrix Gemini Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) at the Eastern Deanery Aids Relief Program (EDARP) in Nairobi, Kenya. EDARP, a non-profit organization providing health services, faced challenges with a paper-based laboratory documentation system that hindered efficiency and accuracy in data recording. The Matrix Gemini LIMS was introduced to automate processes, improve data traceability, and facilitate direct access to electronic patient records. The system allows for streamlined sample registration, reduces data entry errors, and enhances the overall quality of laboratory data. The implementation was completed within budget constraints, which was crucial for the non-profit organization. Key benefits included improved turnaround times for test results, better data security, and an efficient archiving method for laboratory data. The laboratory also adheres to the standards set by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board and is pursuing accreditation to meet international standards.
