This case study details the implementation of the Matrix Gemini Express Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) at the Greenwood Metropolitan District (GMD), a public agency in South Carolina providing sewer and reclaimed water services. The GMD laboratory conducts extensive water testing to ensure compliance with environmental standards, including tests for various pollutants and biological indicators. The transition from a manual tracking system to the Matrix Gemini Express LIMS aimed to enhance data management efficiency, improve sample tracking, and facilitate reporting. The selection process involved evaluating several LIMS options, with Autoscribe Informatics' solution being chosen for its competitive pricing and alignment with GMD's operational needs. Following a three-month parallel run with the manual system, the LIMS was fully adopted after a successful NPDES audit. The implementation has resulted in time savings, professional reporting capabilities, and support comparable to larger laboratories, thus improving the overall operational effectiveness of GMD's laboratory.
