This case study details the implementation of the Matrix Gemini Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) at the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (MRCG at LSHTM). The objective of the implementation was to enhance operational efficiency and performance across the institution's clinical laboratories. MRCG at LSHTM, established in 1947, is a prominent center for medical research in West Africa, focusing on tropical infectious diseases. The LIMS integrates with the existing Electronic Medical Records System (EMRS) and various scientific instruments, facilitating automated data collection and reducing manual transcription errors. The selection process for the LIMS involved a comprehensive evaluation of vendors based on specific functional requirements. The implementation phase included a series of workshops and training sessions to ensure successful integration. Key benefits of the LIMS include improved turnaround times for laboratory results, enhanced communication between departments, and the capability to measure and manage laboratory performance effectively.
