This case study details an investigation into white collar fraud involving kickbacks and money laundering within a healthcare cost management company. Avalon was engaged by a corporate law firm to assist in the termination of the company's chief technology officer (CTO) due to allegations of steering contracts in exchange for bribes. The CTO was found to have orchestrated a scheme that generated over $2.3 million in kickbacks by inflating invoiced hours worked by contract staff. The investigation revealed that the CTO had a shell company established in his wife's name to receive these illicit funds. Avalon coordinated with the company's chief information officer (CIO) to reset critical passwords and prevent the CTO from accessing corporate systems. The investigation uncovered that the CIO was also implicated in the scheme. Ultimately, both the CTO and CIO were terminated and pleaded guilty to their crimes, receiving prison sentences and fines exceeding $5 million.
