This case study details Enbridge's ambitious SCADA Replacement Program (SRP), aimed at replacing 37 proprietary SCADA systems with a unified, high-availability commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) pipeline SCADA solution. The primary objectives include modernizing aging infrastructure, enhancing operator situational awareness, and ensuring compliance with API RP 1165 for safer midstream operations. The challenges faced involved managing multiple legacy systems that required diverse skill sets and resulted in inconsistent operations. The new system, powered by AVEVA solutions, integrates over 350,000 tags and is designed to improve operator wellness by reducing fatigue and enhancing decision-making capabilities. Early results indicate improved operator efficiency, reduced eye strain, and better situational awareness. The project is currently 50% complete and aims to provide a scalable solution that maintains safety and operational integrity across Enbridge's extensive pipeline network. The case study emphasizes the importance of effective training and the positive impact of the new system on operational control and safety assurance.
