This technical report outlines the implementation of remote condition monitoring for critical fuel handling cranes at a waste-to-energy facility. The report details how AVT Reliability Ltd supported the site through routine condition monitoring, which expanded to include Machine Sentry technology. Following the identification of two cranes as critical assets, Machine Sentry Fixed sensors were installed to facilitate remote monitoring. This approach was necessary due to the hazardous conditions surrounding the cranes, which made routine monitoring challenging. The report explains the phased approach to monitoring, starting with monthly data collection and evolving to over 90 sensors and nine gateways. The monitoring strategy was developed based on asset criticality and operating risk, allowing for targeted visibility where it was most needed. The ongoing evolution of the program includes plans to upgrade sensors for improved data quality, enabling maintenance teams to make informed decisions regarding asset condition and reliability.
