This case study details the application of Baystar HDPE 4920N in the sustainable mobile production, joining, and installation of long lengths of HDPE pipes for The Mosaic Company, a leading producer of phosphate and potash crop nutrients. The project, located in Central Florida, aimed to replace steel pipes with HDPE pipes across a 300-mile active pipeline system. Utilizing modular mobile extrusion technology, the project produced black pipe for a water pumping project, achieving significant operational benefits. The study outlines the challenges faced, including the need for a large quantity of pipe and the harsh mining environment that shortens steel pipe lifespan. The results indicated a reduction of over 1,280 fusion welds and more than 3,200 hours of welding time, leading to a 20 percent reduction in overall pipe production costs. The findings support the continued use of HDPE modular mobile extrusion technology in similar mining applications.
