Building a Modern Data Estate on Microsoft Fabric

This document is a case study detailing the implementation of a modern data estate at Edmundson Electrical using Microsoft Fabric. The objective is to enhance reporting capabilities and streamline data management across the organization. Edmundson Electrical, a leading UK electrical wholesaler, faced challenges due to a highly decentralized operating model, which resulted in fragmented sales and commercial data. The existing manual reporting processes were slow and hindered decision-making. The proposed solution involved implementing a Data Warehouse on Microsoft Fabric to centralize data into a single source of truth, utilizing a layered data model for consistent reporting. The case study outlines the phased approach to implementation, including the delivery of Power BI dashboards for improved insights. Expected outcomes include faster decision-making, enhanced forecasting capabilities, and better stock management. Future plans involve scaling the platform to include additional functions and aligning with Microsoft funding opportunities as the organization continues its digital transformation journey.
