This case study details the collaboration between Benchmark and a biotechnology research equipment company focused on innovative gene analysis tools. The objective was to miniaturize the laser steering module (LSM) while maintaining its critical functions. The challenge involved reducing the size of the LSM and automating the assembly processes to enhance production efficiency. Benchmark's engineers worked closely with the customer to refine the design, incorporating advanced optical components and manufacturing processes. The team utilized a flexible, modular prototyping system to create prototypes that accurately represented production-ready designs, allowing for precise adjustments during development. The results included a successful size reduction of the LSM and the establishment of a cost-effective manufacturing process for volume production. This project enabled the customer to expedite their product launch while minimizing risks associated with cross-contamination, ultimately improving their cash flow and supporting further growth initiatives.
