This case study details the project undertaken by Sapura Energy Berhad to construct and transport three heavy platform jackets to the Al Shaheed Field in Qatar within a tight timeframe of one year. The project, managed by North Oil Company, involved complex engineering processes, including design, fabrication, transportation, and installation of the jackets. Traditional towing methods would have required at least 40 days for transportation, leaving insufficient time for the project. To address this, Sapura Energy proposed using a large semi-submersible vessel, the OHT Albatross, which reduced transit time to just 14 days. The study outlines the advanced analyses conducted using MOSES and SACS software to ensure vessel stability and safety during transportation. The innovative approach not only met the project deadline but also resulted in a 50% reduction in transportation time and a 40% decrease in costs. The successful execution of this project set new benchmarks for offshore transportation and highlighted Sapura Energy's capabilities in managing similar future projects.
