SYSTRA Designs E22 Roadway Expansion Project

This case study outlines the E22 roadway expansion project initiated by the Swedish Transport Administration (STA) to enhance traffic safety and accessibility along a 9-kilometer stretch between Fjälkinge and Gualöv in Skåne County, Sweden. The project involves converting a county road into a motorway, which includes widening the existing roadway and expanding local roads, pedestrian paths, and bus stops. SYSTRA was contracted to design the main highway stretch, adhering to STA's strict deliverable requirements. The case study details the collaborative strategies employed by SYSTRA to manage complex design processes and integrate multiple disciplines. It highlights the use of Bentley's OpenRoads, ProjectWise, and iTwin technologies to establish a connected digital design environment.
