This document is a success story detailing the modelling of NVH encapsulation for acoustic simulation of Electric Drive Units (EDUs) at Volvo Cars Corporation. It outlines the importance of accurately predicting the acoustic behavior of EDUs early in the development process to achieve desired NVH performance. The document describes the challenges associated with modelling NVH encapsulation due to its complex geometry and varying distances to the housing, which complicate accurate acoustic simulations. To address these challenges, a new procedure developed by BETA CAE Systems, now part of Cadence, is presented. This procedure automates parts of the meshing process, significantly reducing modelling time to one-tenth of the previous method. The results include the creation of accurate finite element representations of NVH encapsulation, enabling more design iterations and improved accuracy in NVH simulations. The document serves as a technical report on the advancements in simulation techniques for automotive applications.
